Mike Weir: 2008 US Open Player
Mike Weir was born on May 12, 1970, in Brights Grove, Ontario, Canada. He currently resides in Draper, Utah. He turned professional in 1992 and joined the PGA Tour, on which he currently plays, in 1998. He has accumulated 13 professional wins - eight of these on the PGA Tour and five of these from other tournaments.
The first victory that Weir was to enjoy on the PGA Tour was his 1999 win at the Air Canada Championship in Surrey, British Columbia. This made him the first Canadian in 45 years to win a PGA Tour event in Canada.
Mike Weir's most significant finishes
Mike Weir, 2008 US Open player, has won one major championship - this was the 2003 Masters at Augusta, Georgia. With his victory at the Masters, he became the second-ever left-handed golfer to have won any of the four majors. The other was Bob Charles who won the British Open 40 years previously. Like Phil Mickelson, Mike Weir is normally right-handed but plays his golf left-handed.
He won the 2003 and 2004 Champions Challenge as well as the 1993 Infinity tournament Players Championship, the 1997 BC TEL Pacific Open and the 1997 Canadian Masters. Significant non-win finishes in the four major championships include 5th place at the 2005 Masters, 9th place at the 2004 Open Championship, 8th place at the 2007 Open Championship, 7th place at the 2003 PGA Championship and 6th place at the 2006 PGA Championship.

Mike Weir, 2008 US Open player, although never having won the tournament, has achieved some excellent finishes in the last ten years. In 2000 he placed 16th, followed by a 19th in 2001. He missed the cut in 2002 but then bounced back remarkably for a 3rd place in 2003 and a 4th place in 2004. 2005 saw him slump back to 42nd place but 2006 saw him finish 6th. At the 2007 US Open Mike Weir finished 20th.
