He turned professional in 1982 and joined the PGA Tour in 1993 and rejoined the European Tour in 2006. Vijay Singh has 54 professional wins under his belt, 31 of these on the PGA Tour and 12 on the European Tour.

Vijay Singh is one of the most successful golfers of modern times, having been the number one golfer in the official world golf rankings for a period of 32 weeks during 2004 and 2005. He has three major championship wins under his belt and was top of the money list on the PGA Tour in 2003 and 2004. In 2006 he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Vijay Singh has three major championship wins to his name: he won the 2000 Masters by three shots over Ernie Els and two PGA Championships: the first in 1998 by two strokes over Ernie Els and the second in 2004 when he beat Chris DiMarco and Justin Leonard in a three-hole playoff. Other significant finishes in major championships include a third place in the 1999 US Open, a second place in the 2003 British Open and a 5th place in the 2005 British Open.

The US Open has never been won by Vijay Singh, although he has finished in the top ten a number of times and has not missed the cut since 1993. He has finished in the top ten a total of seven times since the 1995 US Open. In that year he came 10th, followed by 7th in 1996. He came 3rd in 1999, 8th in 2000 and 7th in 1990. In 2005 and 2006 he tied for 6th. His most recent US Open outing saw him finishing 20th at the 2007 US Open.
