Glover leads into weekend
The 2009 US Open got underway in earnest on Friday, as the clouds cleared over Long Island’s Bethpage Park.
The day ended with Lucas Glover carrying the lead into the 3rd day of the tournament on a score of -6. Mike Weir was the best positioned of the top rated players at the tournament, scoring a 6 under par 64 to finish the day 3 back from Glover.
"It was just one of those days," Weir said. "I was just really focused on it. I didn't give the score much thought. I was just trying to hit it close."
Tiger Woods didn’t enjoy a good day at the office, finishing the day with a score of 4 over and with a mountain to climb if he wishes to play himself back into contention for the 2009 US Open title.
At 10 shots behind the leader, Woods would need to make US Open history to haul in Glover’s lead and defend his title.
"It's not like I was hitting it all over the place," Woods said after the round. "I hit a lot of good shots. Unfortunately I didn't finish off the round the way I would have liked."
