He won his first golf tournament at the tender age of 15 when he was a member of the Greater Tampa Junior Golf Association. Lee Janzen turned professional in 1986 and competes on the PGA Tour. He was accumulated nine professional wins, of which eight were on the PGA Tour. His most significant golfing accomplishment was winning the 1993 US Open as well as the 1998 US Open

Apart from his two wins at the US Open, Lee Janzen, 2008 US Open player, has three significant other major championship results. In 1996 he came tenth at the US Open, and in the same year he finished eighth in the PGA Championship. The following year he came fourth in that same championship. His other PGA Tour wins include the 1992 Northern Telecom Open, the 1993 Phoenix Open, the 1994 Buick Classic, the 1995 Players Championship, 1995 Kemper Open and 1995 Sprint International - making 1995 one of Janzen's best years in his career - apart from his two US Open winning years. He also snatched up a victory at the 1995 Players' Championship, which is part of the PGA Tour but is not classified as a major championship.

As stated, Lee Janzen has won the US Open twice - in 1993 and five years later in 1998. At the 1993 US Open he beat the late Payne Stewart by two strokes, and in 1998 he again beat Payne Stewart by two strokes. Interestingly, Lee Janzen, 2008 US Open player, failed to make the cut for the tournament in the two years leading up to his 1993 victory as well as the following year. He also failed to make the cut in 2001, 2002 and 2006. At the 2007 US Open he finished in 13th position.
