Todd Hamilton was born on October 18, 1965 in Galesburg, Illinois. He now resides in McKinney, Texas. He turned professional in 1987 and battled for a long while to gain entrance to the PGA Tour. He played on the Japan Golf Tour for many years until finally joining the PGA Tour in 2004. He has accumulated 17 professional wins - two of these on the PGA Tour, 11 on the Japan Golf Tour and four other wins. He became the leading all-time non-Japanese money winner on the Japan Golf Tour.

Todd Hamilton, 2008 US Open player, has won one major championship in his golf career - this was the 2004 British Open. Other big wins include the 2004 Honda Classic as well as the 2004 Open Championship where he beat Ernie Els in a four-hole playoff. These two wins gave Hamilton the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award in 2004.
