Ben Curtis was born on May 26, 1977, in Columbus Ohio. He currently resides in Stow, Ohio. He turned professional in 2000 and joined the PGA Tour three years later, and has accumulated three wins on that tour to date. His best major championship result thus far was his win at The Open Championship of 2003, which automatically qualifies him for the 2008 US Open.

Before turning professional, Ben Curtis won the Ohio Amateur Championship in 1999 and 2000 as well as the Players' Amateur Championship in 2000. In 2003 Ben Curtis, 2008 US Open player, was awarded the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award as a result of his win at The Open Championship of 2003 Open.

He had only one top ten finish in 2004 on the PGA Tour, and only two in 2005. Things looked a bit better in 2006 when he won the Booz Allen Classic and the Lumber Classic. In 2007, he came 8^th at The Open Championship in Cournoustie.

Ben Curtis, 2008 US Open player's history at the tournament is a relatively fresh one. He first played the tournament in 2004, qualifying as a result of winning The Open Championship in 2003. At the 2004 US Open in Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, he came 30^th, but followed to make the cut at the 2005 US Open at Pinehurst Resort Course No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He succeeded in making the cut in 2006 and placed 57^th. He bettered this result at the 2007 US Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, where he tied for 45^th place.
