Pinehurst Resort is a top-rate golfing establishment situated in the vicinity of the village of Pinehurst in North Carolina. Having hosted two previous US Opens, Course Two will again host this prestigious tournament in 2014.

The resort boasts eight golf courses in total, with three hotels, a spa and many recreational facilities on site. It held the Guinness World Record for being largest golf resort in the world, an honour which now belongs to Mission Hills Golf Club in China.

Pinehurst Resort Background Information

The first Pinehurst Resort golf course was laid out in 1897 and 1898, with the first championship to be held at the venue being the United North and South Amateur Championship in 1901. The second course, which is today known as the better course of the two and will thus be the 2014 US Open venue, was opened in 1907.

Pinehurst hosts the North and South Amateur Golf Championships. The first time that it hosted a PGA Tour major was in 1936 when it hosted the PGA Championship. The Ryder Cup was played here in 1951, and The Tour Championship in 1991 and 1992. The venue has also played host to the US Open championship on two occasions:
