The Olympic Club, Daly City, San Francisco, California
The venue for the 2012 US Open golf tournament will be the Olympic Club, located across the area between Daly City and San Francisco in California. The country club is made up of a number of golf courses, with the main City Clubhouse being in San Francisco itself. Another clubhouse - the Lakeside Clubhouse - is in Daly City. Between these two clubhouses, over a distance of around ten miles, lie the Olympic Club's three golf courses - namely the Cliffs, Lake and Ocean courses.
The Lake Course has been chosen as the 2012 US Open venue. This is a par-71 course lined with almost 40 000 trees and offers views of the Golden Gate Park and Golden Gate Bridge.

This course is without a doubt an excellent one, receiving much recognition over the years. GOLF magazine named it in its list of top 100 US courses, while GOLFWEEK also named the course in its list of America's 100 Best Classical Courses. Not to be outdone, Golf Digest also included this course - at position 23 - in one of its lists: the 100 Greatest Courses in the USA for 2007-2008.
Lake Course, 2012 US Open venue, is 6 842 yards from the back tees. It was lengthened ahead of the 2007 US Amateur - the par-4 second hole by 30 yards and the par-3 third hole by 30 yards.
Previous US Opens at Lake Course, Olympic Club, San Francisco
Four previous US Open golf championships have been hosted at this venue. They were in 1955, 1966, 1987 and 1998. A break of 14 years is currently in progress, with the course to be the 2012 US Open venue again.
The 1955 US Open at this venue was won by Jack Fleck, while the 1966 US Open here was won by Billy Casper. In 1987, Scott Simpson was victorious with a one stroke win over Tom Watson. The latest US Open to be held at Lake Course, Olympic Club, was in 1998 when Lee Janzen posted a score of 280.
