2011 US Open Venue
Congressional Country Club, Blue Course (Bethesda, Maryland)
For 2011, the venue for the US Open golf tournament will be the Blue Course at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The venue formerly hosted the Kemper Open - which was part of the PGA tour - from 1980 to 1986. There are two courses - the Blue Course and the Gold Course - at this 2011 US Open venue.
Gold Course at Congressional Country Club
This is the minor course of the two at Congressional Country Club and has undergone a number of significant renovations over the years and is now almost on a par with the Blue Course in terms of difficulty. At 6 844 yards, this par-70 course has been rated by Golf Digest magazine as the 5th most challenging course in Maryland.
Blue Course at Congressional Country Club
This will be the course for the 2011 US Open, and hosts all tournaments played at the venue. It boasts rolling terrain and fairways lined with trees. After negotiating these fairways, players must contend with large greens with awkward slopes - that's if they've managed to avoid the water hazards along the way.
Golf Digest magazine rated the Blue Course at Congressional Country Club - venue for the 2011 US Open championship - as 86th best in America as of 2007. It was redesigned by Robert Trent Jones in 1857 before getting the treatment from well-known golf course designer Rees Jones in 1989.
The Congressional Country Club Blue Course is 7 250 yards long and has a par rating of 70.
