2008 US Open Venue
Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, is the venue for the 2008 US Open golf tournament. Torrey Pines consists of a North and a South course. The South course is known as the more difficult of the two, and was thus the first choice for the US Open venue, as this golf tournament favours courses of a more difficult nature.
Torrey Pines South Course measures 7 607 yards and is to date the longest course used in any PGA golf tournament. Visit our Torrey Pines course layout page for more information about the challenges golfers can expect to face when teeing up at this challenging 2008 US Open venue.
Overview of Torrey Pines
Torrey Pines is owned by the city of San Diego. The municipal course is situated on coastal cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the La Jolla community which lies to the south of the Torrey Pines State Reserve.
The venue is the annual host of the PGA tour Buick Invitational in the beginning of the year, as well as the San Diego City Amateur Golf Championships and the Junior World Championships midway through the year.
The name Torrey Pines was derived from the rare and wild Torrey Pine tree, which grows only along certain areas of the coastline of San Diego as well as on Santa Rosa Island.
